Yesterday was, as I said, one of the hottest days of the summer, but we got a good drenching thunderstorm last night and woke up to much cooler weather this morning. Perfect for a morning at the beach! So we donned our bathing suits ("baby suit," Josephine calls hers), grabbed the sunscreen and a cooler full of peanut butter sandwiches and crunchy-cold grapes, and headed up to Bald Eagle State Park.
Another car trip! Hooray!
The sky was a bit overcast, enough so that we didn't feel like we were baking on the sand, and the water was delightful--neither too cool nor too hot. Perfect.
We haven't done many family swimming excursions so far, because Rudy has been pretty freaked out by water to this point. He's not even comfortable in his bath much of the time. So we weren't sure what to expect, but there is a pretty good playground at the beach too, so we figured that would save the trip from total failure.
We needn't have worried:
Look how far he is from us! (shallow water, don't worry.)
This is some serious fun.
He loved the water. At one point actually exclaimed, "Now THIS is the life!" Too cute.
This was actually a happy wave, but I am not the best photographer. :)
We fully expected Josephine to adore the water. And she was very excited to see the lake and run headlong into it...until she felt the bottom of her swim suit get wet and started screaming, "GET IT OFF! GET IT OFF!" and before we could stop her, she was stripping out of her suit (this is a motif in our life with her) and chucking it back on the beach. Ah, that's better! She eventually settled into her usual industriousness and spent the rest of the morning methodically walking shovelfuls of sand from the shore into the shallows to dump on her father's head.
Naked, busy baby.
Yes, she was coated in sunscreen.
How much longer can we get away with letting her run around au natural?
What a nice morning we had! Spent about 2 hours just floating and enjoying the slowness. Compared to last weekend's bog debacle, this was a rousing success, and we can't wait to go back.
