Bog Adventures

Yesterday we left State College. You might not think this is a Big Deal, but it's rare that we get to explore the outlying areas in Pennsylvania. When we go, it's usually on an airplane to California of Florida, or in the car to Connecticut. We've pledged to change this, and yesterday was part of the New Order of Things.

We headed up to Black Moshannon National Park--about 40 minutes outside of town, with the idea that we could hike into the woods a little and see the bog the place is famous for. The kids were excited to go.

She doesn't look particularly thrilled, I admit....an omen, perhaps?

That's a little better.

Mr. Cool.

It all began well enough.

Toward the bog trail.

It was very sunny and very hot on the boardwalk....

The bog.

I wish we could have spent more time on this trail, but what happened next was something right out of the Two-Year-Old Textbook. Josephine lost her everloving mind when she realized that by "park" we did NOT mean the kind with swings and slides...

Was this shot before or after we finally got her to stop screaming in the woods, "This is NOT a park!" over and over and over...

Ah, well.

Like Paul said, the drive out was beautiful and the few minutes we spent looking at the bog were teaser enough to make us sure we'll go back.
