They started as yellow petals--the bane of the suburban lawn owner, but I've always thought them rather lovely popping up so brightly among all that green. And then of course they quickly went to seed. We call them "blow flowers" around here and you know how they work: make a wish and blow the fluff away. It occurs to me that here in the context of parenthood, those bits of wish take on a larger meaning (as everything here in parenthood does). Something about possibility and about wild optimism. What's in store for us this summer? This year? How much change is ahead of us. So many more brilliant blooms to come!
