We had a week-long visit from our niece, Lauren, recently and the kids responded to her instantly and adoringly. She is 15 now, and still the budding artist. On one of the rainy days, I set everyone up with arts and craft supplies and they went to work. Lauren worked on painting and decorating a sketch book that our friend Kim had given her, Josephine worked in acrylics with her fingers, and Rudy tore (literally) through magazines for striking images to collage.

Lauren's book, sideways because I couldn't figure out how to flip it.

Rudy picked out images of open-heart surgery from a National Geographic. Edgy!

And this is "Mr. Googly Eye Guy."

Josephine's Abstract Expressionism. Or is that Impressionism? Or Pointilism?

Sunrise, Sunset

Josephine "helps" cousin Lauren sketch.

We had a great week and can't wait for Lauren to return to us next summer when she could be--eek!--driving!
