Back to School Night!

Last week we had a ball attending Back to School Night. The kids liked getting to play in each other's respective classrooms and having the run of the place. I remember how magical it felt to be in school after hours. It just seemed somehow more fun.

Paging Dr. Squillante

Josephine's teachers tell us that she especially loves dramatic play, and we definitely see that at home as well. She is forever making up little stories about her dolls and animals. She even has a game she plays wherein she cradles her own leg to her chest and says, with gravity, "Foot is sick." And then she strokes her poor feverish foot and gives it? her? some special foot medicine. She takes care of everyone.

This is where the kids check themselves in every day. Rudy showed us how.

The kids still get "nap" time in both classrooms, but really it's just a time to look quietly at books.

Just a sample of his artistic stylings.
Rudy has a new, FABULOUS, teacher this year, who has brought great energy and structure to the classroom. As much as we liked the idea of the play-based preschool he was in last year, it has become totally clear that he does much better with routine. His teacher described him to us as serious, cautious (when it comes to other kids) and helpful (to her). She says he is beyond ready for kindergarten, and we see that too. But we think this year of pre-K is really going to help him catch up socially and emotionally. We're very pleased with his progress. And though he still pretends he doesn't like school, we think he might just be bluffing. :)
